The story
If there is a symbol that defines the spirit of Giverny, it is the Japanese bridge. During my visit, I was struck by how the structure creates a perfect harmony between the sky and the water. This painting is not a literal study of that architecture, but an exploration of its silhouette emerging through a thick, nostalgic fog.
Through the Fogged Bridge focuses on the layers of atmosphere. By using a restricted, tonalist palette, I wanted to evoke the feeling of standing here, where the greens of the weeping willows and the pinks of the lilies are softened by the damp Normandy air.
