This painting holds the energy of a beginning—it was my very first time painting sunflowers in oil. After years of admiring how Van Gogh could make a simple bloom feel so alive, standing before my own canvas with this medium felt like a long-awaited conversation. 

I wasn't just looking for the right shade of yellow; I was learning how to layer the paint to find that inner glow. There is a specific kind of joy in these petals, a warmth that contrasts with the deep, moody background. To me, it's a reminder of the excitement I felt when I first realized that I could finally translate my admiration for the masters into my own visual language.

This painting was created using oil paints on a cotton canvas.
